About Us: WasteXchange – Pioneering Circular Solutions
for Trinidad & Tobago
Our Vision: Fueling a Waste-Free,
Circular region
At WasteXchange (WasteX), we believe in a world where "waste" is simply a resource waiting for a new life. Our mission: to transform how Trinidad & Tobago (and the entire Latam region) thinks about waste—spotlighting it not as a problem, but as an opportunity for innovation, climate action, and shared prosperity. We’re driving industrial transformation by connecting waste generators with innovators who can turn yesterday’s leftovers into tomorrow’s raw materials, growing the region’s circular economy one collaboration at a time.
What Is WasteXchange?
Rethinking Waste, Unlocking Value
WasteXchange is Trinidad & Tobago’s first digital waste exchange platform—engineered to connect businesses, manufacturers, recyclers, and entrepreneurs in a dynamic marketplace for secondary materials. Powered by cutting-edge technology and hands on partnerships with local and regional industry leaders, our platform enables organizations to trade, repurpose, and monetize surplus materials that would otherwise end up as environmental liabilities.
In simple terms, WasteX bridges those who have unwanted byproducts with those who can use them, creating a win-win for businesses and for the planet—turning “trash” into treasure, reducing landfill dependency, cutting costs, and spurring the emergence of green industries.
Why We Exist:
Our Purpose and Ambition
Our region faces mounting waste management hurdles—from rising landfill volumes and pollution concerns, to fragmented recycling ecosystems and the heavy toll of linear, “take-make-throw” economic models. Trinidad & Tobago alone generates millions of liters of waste oils and thousands of tonnes of industrial, commercial, and municipal byproducts annually; far too much of this ends up in dumps, waterways, or is simply underutilized as a resource.
The WasteXchange vision is bold and straightforward:

• To ignite a circular revolution in Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean.

• To prove—right here, right now—that every “waste” can spark opportunity, profit, and environmental renewal.

• To unite businesses, recyclers, innovators, and communities on a single digital platform that transforms waste management from a challenge into a catalyst for growth.
Proudly Backed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB)
WasteXchange is proudly supported under project #TT-G1008, an ambitious initiative funded as part of a larger IDB/GEF grant to ignite the circular economy in Trinidad & Tobago. As part of the Recycling of Waste Lubricating Oils project, the platform demonstrates—at scale—the economic, social, and environmental viability of circular solutions in small island developing states.
The IADB’s support extends far beyond financing. Through project TT-G1008, the Bank brings:

• Global expertise in circular business models and digital transformation.

• Connections to regional initiatives in circular economy policy, innovation ecosystems, and sustainable development.

Together, we place Trinidad & Tobago on the map as a leader in Caribbean circularity— and as an inspirational model for island economies worldwide.
Trailblazing with TOSL Engineering:
Local Muscle, Global Mindset
WasteXchange is not just a digital idea; it’s a hands-on partnership that harnesses the technical prowess of Trinidad & Tobago’s industrial sector. Our flagship collaboration with TOSL Engineering brings over four decades of engineering excellence, operational scale, and industry trust to the project.
What TOSL brings to WasteXchange:

• Innovation in Waste Recycling: TOSL is piloting Trinidad & Tobago’s first advanced recycling facility for waste lubricating oils, converting them back into base oils usable by industries, cutting disposal pollution and reducing the need for virgin imports.

• Digital-Physical Connectivity: With the WasteXchange platform, TOSL’s operations are integrated with a live, transparent digital marketplace, supported by real-time data analytics, quality checks, and robust traceability from pickup to processing.

• End-to-End Service: From sample collection and analysis, to logistics, storage, and processing, TOSL’s engineering teams offer the complete operational backbone needed to bring circular economy innovation to life.
Together, we’re not just matching supply with demand—we’re rewriting the rulebook for sustainable industry in Trinidad & Tobago.
How WasteXchange Works:
The Marketplace in Motion
Here’s how WasteXchange is revolutionizing the waste ecosystem:
1. Digital Listings: Businesses list available byproducts, surplus materials, or “waste” on the WasteX platform—with data on type, quantity, location, and desired outcomes.
2. Smart Matching: Advanced algorithms and filters help recyclers, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs find precisely the resources they need for raw materials, production, or R&D innovation.
3. Quality Assurance: Every material passes through stringent digital and physical quality checks—raising industry confidence and lowering transaction risk.
4. Logistics Coordination: The platform enables seamless scheduling between producers, recyclers, and logistics partners—streamlining pickups and deliveries.
5. Transaction Transparency: Both parties receive digital confirmations, feedback loops, and traceable records, ensuring regulatory compliance and a frictionless experience.
6. Circular Impact Measurement: Real-time dashboards track landfill diversion, emissions reductions, resource savings, and value created—proving ROI and environmental impact.
Our Impact:
Why Waste Exchange Matters
WasteXchange doesn’t just fill a market gap; it sparks ripple effects that redefine sustainability and economic development:
• Landfill Reduction: By turning waste into a tradable commodity, we minimize landfill dependency, cut pollution, and extend the lifespan of local disposal sites.

• Resource Efficiency: Every successful exchange means less extraction of virgin materials, decreased import bills, and a smaller national carbon footprint.

• Green Industry Growth: Waste exchange platforms create new value chains, spawning local entrepreneurs, recycling startups, sustainable manufacturers, and jobs in the circular economy.

• Economic Savings & Opportunity: Producers save on waste disposal costs and new material acquisition, while recyclers access affordable, quality resources— supporting local businesses, non-profits, and innovators.

• Climate Action: Every kilogram of reused material means lower greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner waterways, and progress towards Trinidad & Tobago’s Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets.
